When you first
visit Cairo, everywhere you look immediately makes you conscious that you are in a
medieval city. Contrasting and strong images are a Middle Eastern feature that all who
have been lucky enough to visit here will recognise. The brown minarets and apartment
buildings among the modern hotels, the people in western clothes mixing with the
conservative "galabiyyas" of the traditional folk, and the ancient Pyramids on
the edge of one of the worlds largest cities are examples.
Everything is old in Egypt really OLD, like
about 13th century BC. Our Egyptologist who guides us around Egypt will bring
all this history alive for you, as you visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (home of the
treasures of Tutankhamun and the Mummy Room), the temples of Karnak and the Valley of the
Kings in Luxor, sail in a felucca on the Nile at Aswan, and marvel at Ramsis Temple at Abu
Simbel.
Come with
us on our Antioch to Cairo tour and experience Antioch (Antakya) in S.E. Turkey, the great Roman
and Crusader sites in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, the rose red Nabatean city of
Petra, St. Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai plus Cairo, Egypt. Pass by Israel. See
Damascus, Baalbek, Bosra, Byblos, Wadi Rum and Jerusalem. Who does not have a dream to see Egypt?

India

India has always been an important
destination for us. It is a country so different from any other in the world, that all who
travel there come home with deep and lasting impressions. It is a country with such
overwhelming feelings of religion, colour, crowds, and extremes, that makes each day a new
experience, and each traveller feels that they have indeed spent time away from the
ordinary and everyday.
The most experienced of
travellers often find the complexities, seeming chaos, and sheer numbers in India quite
overwhelming. India can be the hardest, yet most rewarding country to visit.
Highlights
include a visit to the Ganges early in the morning to take a boat ride past the Bathing
Ghats. The early morning light of the rising sun touches the river with a golden glow
that gives colour and magic to the astounding scenes along the river. Men carrying brass
pots to ritually pour the water over themselves, women bobbing into the water in beautiful
saris, holy men greeting the sun or seated in audience beneath large umbrellas, hawkers,
children playing, curious tourists, and family groups at the burning ghats, attending the
cremation of a loved one
.all part of the Varanasi scene. And all making the
early morning rise most worth while.
It is difficult
to totally describe the internationally accepted symbol of India - the Taj Mahal
at Agra.
.A few metres of celluloid are always used to capture the images of this magnificent
building at sunrise, full sunlight, and sunset, from every direction imaginable. This
marble and precious stone monument can really have the most hardened of travellers
searching for superlatives when they try to describe their first "Taj"
experience.

Libya
|
The Rats of Tobruk are as familiar
to Australians as the Anzacs of Gallipoli and the heroes of the Kokoda
Trail in New Guinea. However, most of us know very little about our
soldiers in North Africa, and Tobruk. In 1941, up to 14,000 Australians
troops fought the German's advance from Libya into Egypt. Their
persistence led to the name "Rats of Tobruk".
Australia's first Victoria Cross for WW2 was awarded to a soldier
at Tobruk in 1941. He is buried in the Tobruk War Cemetery, with another
558 Australians who died in this siege. Some famous landmarks are still
there for the visiting Australian - the Fig Tree, over a cave used
in the war, Rommel's Bunker, and large cannons, as well as the
Commonwealth Cemeteries.
El Alamein
is on the Mediterranean coastline of Egypt, a short drive from Libya.
The Desert campaign of World War II was fought between 1940 and 1942 along
this coastline from Benghazi in Libya to Alexandria in Egypt. Over
1200 Australians are buried in the El Alamein cemetery, and 658 missing
Australians are remembered on the Memorial here.
But Libya has much more to offer the
traveller. It is an ancient country that is just now becoming a tourist
destination, and the ancient ruins of Leptis Magna, Sabratha, Apollo and
Cyrene are stunning reminders of the civilisations that once ruled this
Mediterranean region.
Deep in the Sahara desert, in central
Libya, are the Ubari Lakes. Some of these desert lakes are over 300m
long, and they are truly an amazing sight. Nestled down between massive
rolling sand dunes, they are rimmed by tall green palm trees, and the deep
blue waters appear like a large sapphire in the yellow sand.
Libya offers dramatic scenery, history,
ancient ruins, and relevance to Australia, from WW2.

Morocco

Play it, Sam. You played it for her, now play it for me!" Who can forget Humphrey
Bogarts famous line to the piano-player in "Casablanca"? Well, actually
most people have never heard this line, as the legend has him saying "Play it
again, Sam!"
Anyway,
this gave us a romantic, black and white view of the world of the Barbary Coast and a
meeting place of countries and cultures when the French, Spanish and Germans elbowed for
influence over Morocco. Now the film world brings us great shots (in colour) of the
scenery and old cities of Morocco under such titles as Kundun, Lawrence of
Arabia, and The Mummy.
Actually, Morocco has much more to offer than simply the
sets of hit films. There is an incredible diversity of landscapes, ranging from the lonely
deserts of the Western Sahara, the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains, to the fertile, green
Atlantic coastal areas.We
drive through the Draa Valley, a long stretch of date palms, olive trees, busy Berber
villages and kasbahs. Weve crossed the Atlas at the stunning Todra Gorge, then after
sampling the desert magic, we cross back to the coastal plains through the Dadas Gorge,
where the road runs beside clear streams, and the mountain scenery and rich coloured rock
make this a splendid route.
And then there is the history and cities
the medina
of Old Fez, the huge square in Marrakech where entertainment just goes on and on, the
Roman ruins of Volubilis, the elaborate doors, knockers and gateways that enrich the
architecture of the Imperial cities. Morocco certainly has the excitement of its past as
well as the rich culture of the present.

Tibet
|
Tibet is a country that was off limits to the rest of the world for many
centuries, and even now, when it is at last possible for westerners to visit this region,
nature keeps us locked out for much of the year. Snow and harsh conditions keep Tibetans
in seclusion in their winter months. Made Easy
Tours, specialists in providing small group
escorted tours to somewhat "difficult" destinations, have chosen to visit Tibet
in June/July. This is before the heavy rains arrive, and when the days are quite warm (10
- 23 degrees).
Throughout
the whole of Tibet, we are constantly overwhelmed by the striking colours and sharp
contrasts in all aspects of life. In the cities and villages, Tibetan women plait pale
blue turquoise and orange coral beads into their long, jet black hair. Gentle monks bring
strong splashes of deep maroon and yellow against the white backdrop of the monasteries,
and all around us flutter hundreds of colourful prayer flags left by devout pilgrims.
Each deep valley brings its
own sharp outlines and colours. Steep treeless mountains
surround the surprisingly
fertile valleys where we see the tapestry of rich green fields of barley
interspersed with neat yellow fields of rape flowers. High above this
landscape we are often treated to magnificent views of snow covered
mountains, deep blue lakes, and massive glaciers edging down into the
valleys.
Closer to the Nepalese border, the gaunt, barren mountains and
plains are replaced by lush alpine rainforest, with waterfalls falling from the clouds
into the ravines far below.

Nepal is a
small country nestled in between India and the Himalayan Mountains. It is a Hindu Kingdom,
yet Buddhism is everywhere in daily life. We visit Kathmandu and the almost medieval
cities in the valley (Patan and Bhaktapur).
Our one early morning in Nepal is the day we bus out to Nagarkot to
watch the sun rise over Mt Everest. Its cold enough for scarves, beanies, and
thick socks, but everyone is thrilled to have made the effort when we sit down for a hot
breakfast with the ultimate in views
.snow covered Himalayan peaks surrounding us.
After breakfast, we set off on our mini-trek (you can opt out and take the bus if you
want!) and this is when we get to walk through little villages, farms, and pine forests,
all the time marvelling at the splendid views and peaceful feelings that are the essence
of Nepal. Tour Details

Containing more ancient
Greek and Roman history than Greece and Italy combined, this incredible country has also
been host to many other civilisations including the Hittites. You will find modern
Turkish people to be among the friendliest you will encounter anywhere. The pretty
countryside is always diverse and sometimes just plain amazing! Ask anyone who has been,
and they wont stop talking about the wonderful things there. For the complete ANZAC
experience, Made Easy
Tours now offer an
opportunity to follow in the steps of the ANZACs with our Tour Extensions into France
and Belgium, which commence at the end of our
tours of Gallipoli and Turkey. This option allows travellers to follow in the foot-steps
of ANZAC soldiers during the Great War, travelling from the cliffs of Gallipoli and Lone
Pine to the fields of Flanders and the Somme. Alternative options include an opportunity
to tour Egypt at the conclusion of your ANZAC experience.
Made
Easy Tours takes clients
to Turkey in April (for Anzac Day) and independently at other times.
In April,
all our tours are at Gallipoli for the Dawn Service on Anzac Day, plus we have most of the
day prior on the Gallipoli Peninsula also, so we can visit these important sites at a more
relaxed pace. We offer clients a 19 day Splendours
of Turkey Tour which takes in all the important sites in western and central Turkey,
including Cappadocia and the Mediterranean coast. It is also possible to do a 12 day Highlights of Turkey Tour, which includes (in
addition to Anzac Day), the western Aegean Coast down to Bodrum. The 5 day Mini-tour includes Istanbul and the Anzac Day
experience, and is designed for those who can be in Turkey for only a short time.

Vietnam is a
surprising country with a varied landscape, charming people and really interesting things
to see. Many people do come to Vietnam for War History -- and there are plenty of
fascinating places such as the Cu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City, and the city of Hue,
site of the Tet Offensive. Others come for the cultural and religious attractions such as
the many pagodas and temples, and the famous Water Puppets in Hanoi.
Hue is the historical centre, sites of the
mausoleums of the Emperors, and the Forbidden City. Hoi An is like a city fixed in time,
unchanged for hundreds of years.
We always have time to wander the back
streets in Vietnam, to enjoy the beaches and hill stations, eat excellent seafood, spend
time on rivers and other waterways, and spread a little money around in the bazaars as
well! Tour Details

BATTLEFIELDS OF THE WESTERN FRONT
When the Australians came to France, the French people expected a
great deal of you ... We knew you would fight a real fight but we did not know
that from the beginning you would astonish the whole continent...I shall go back
tomorrow and say to my countrymen; 'I have seen the Australians. I have looked
in their faces. I know that these men...will fight alongside of us again until
the cause for which we are all fighting is safe for us and for our
children.'
The French Prime Minister, Georges Clemenceau, spoke those words in 1918
following the Australian Victory at the Battle of Hamel. That was but one
of the battles in which Australian soldiers were involved during the bloody
carnage inflicted on the French and Belgium countrysides during World War 1.
Many Australian soldiers died in the sometimes muddy, sometimes dry, but
always bloody fields of France and Belgium. Those countries have never
forgotten the sacrifices made by our soldiers to free them from the oppression
that Germany intended to inflict upon them.
Today, they remember Australian forces in
many ways. At Villers-Brettoneux, on the first Saturday after ANZAC
Day, a special ceremony is held to commemorate the fallen soldiers and to
remember their bravery and sacrifice. The local school has a
prominent sign in the courtyard, saying "N'OUBLIONS JAMAIS
L'AUSTRALIE" - Never forget Australia.
At Ypres in Belgium, at 8PM on every day of
the year, The Last Post ceremony is held at the Menin Gate to commemorate
the ultimate sacrifice made by so many soldiers, Australians, English,
Irish and many others. This is a moving ceremony and serves to
remind all who attend of the scale of the loss of life during this bloody
conflict.
Our tours of France and Belgium take us to the battlefields
where our countrymen fell in the defence of freedom. It's a
beautiful place now - the scars of war have been largely covered by the
verdant grasses of spring. But not far beneath that beauty lie reminders
of the horrors of war. You will visit many memorials, beautifully
tended by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Come with us on this journey of remembrance - you will be touched in ways you
did not think possible - and you will never forget it.

Jordan

We in Australia sometimes know very little about the small country
of Jordan, yet anyone who travels there leaves in awe of the stunning ancient Roman
cities, the impressive crusader castles, the mosaics dating back to biblical times, and
the piéce de rèsistance, the splendour and grandeur of the Treasury of Petra, made
recognisable in one of the Indiana Jones adventures! Jordanians are traditionally desert
people, and the rich deep colours in their flat woven and embroidered carpets are a real
attraction to visitors.
Southern Jordan is
the country of Lawrence of Arabia, and we visit some of this amazing scenery at Wadi Rum
on the way down to the Gulf of Aqaba. Our full day visit to Petra is an awesome
experience, from the first glimpse of the Treasury as we walk down the narrow pass through
the coloured mountains. Petra was a large city, dating from 600 BC, and most of the
features (theatre, tombs, temples, decorations etc) are all carved out of the mountain
walls. After our lunch in a bedouin tent, the more active of us make the extra climb to
the Monastery - a giant, magnificent structure carved from the mountain high above the
rest of the valley.

Made Easy Tours
commenced operations in 1993 by taking travellers to India and Nepal.
Within two years, we had added Turkey, and then Egypt, Israel
and Jordan to our Fully Escorted itineraries. Vietnam, Tibet,
Morocco, and now the Western Front Battlefields have
enhanced our list of exciting places and cultures that we provide for our
clients to experience and enjoy. Most recent additions are Syria, Lebanon (see
"Antioch to Cairo" Tour) and Libya (to see this fascinating country and also the
Tobruk battlefields of WW2).
Our mission has always been to provide a
flexible, fully supported tour to destinations where that little bit more
care and attention to detail makes all the difference. Although most of our
emphasis is on Fully Escorted Tours to slightly more challenging
destinations at particular times of the year (such as Gallipoli in
Turkey for Anzac Day), we do have a lot of very satisfied clients who
prefer to travel independently to these countries where we have particular
expertise and knowledge.
Made Easy Tours provide a very special way
of travelling. We give you an opportunity to see and experience some of the more exciting
and challenging countries in the world, in a group situation where you feel secure,
supported and confident. Our tours are planned especially for people who enjoy unusual,
new and exciting places, but are a little unsure of travelling there by themselves. We
provide holidays which are friendly, well planned, diverse in style and itineraries, and
as flexible as the situation allows. This is done by offering a total package where we
organise the flights from Australia and all of the components of a well-paced tour of the
highlights of the country.
Our full time Australian tour managers
are there at all times to see that your trip is hassle free and professionally managed to
give you the best that these places have to offer.
We
welcome first-time travellers as much as experienced veterans, people of all ages, (18 to
80), singles and couples, and confident or cautious natures; the only necessary
prerequisites are an interest in the world at large and an open-minded attitude to the
differences that make up all the strands of humanity. Our programs are designed to give
ample opportunity to sample the vastly different cultures, religions, history, landscapes,
foods and crafts of some of the oldest civilisations in the world. Our many repeat clients
continually reinforce our belief that the best souvenirs of all are the exciting memories
and positive feelings about a newly explored country.
