Highlights of Libya and Egypt Tour |
| Our recommendation is to meet in Istanbul and fly with Tour Manager to Tripoli. (If you are in Turkey for ANZAC Day, transfer to the airport with the Tour Manager for the flight to Tripoli.) Arrive Tripoli. Transfer to our hotel. (D) |
| After breakfast, drive to Leptis Magna, the brilliant white Roman city beside the blue Mediterranean. This was once the greatest Roman city in Africa. We have a picnic lunch at Leptis Magna. Tonight we have dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D) |
| This morning we visit the Tripoli Museum. After lunch drive to Sabratha to visit these spectacular ruins, including the outstanding theatre and museum. (B, L, D) |
| This morning we visit the oldest mosque in Tripoli and spend time in the medina of small local shops. Visit the Tripoli War Cemetery. Late this afternoon, we transfer to the airport for the flight to Sebha. Arrive Sebha and transfer to the hotel for overnight. (B, L, D) |
| Day 5: 1 May |
DESERT LAKES |
| After breakfast at the hotel, we set off in our 4WD'sfor a full day of sightseeing in this spectacular desert. We have lunch near a shady oasis, then drive deeper into the dunes, visiting some amazing desert lakes. Tonight we camp out. (B, L, D) |
| After breakfast, we continue for more sightseeing in the Sahara. We have another fresh lunch at an oasis, before driving out of the desert back to Sebha for our flight to Benghazi. Transfer to our hotel for overnight in Benghazi. (B, L, D) |
| This morning we visit the graves of Australians in the Commonwealth War Cemetery and tour other sites in Benghazi. We then drive to Cyrene, the extensive ancient Grecian ruins high on the hills. Late afternoon drive to Apollonia, check into our hotel. Dinner tonight at our hotel. (B, L, D) |
| This morning we visit Apollonia, where we can see the remnants of the ancient city that sank beneath the Mediterranean in a devastating earthquake. Drive to Derna for lunch. After this we continue along the coastal highway to Tobruk. Here we visit Rommel's Bunker and the grand German Memorial. Afterwards, we check into our hotel. (B, L, D) |

Full day visiting the sites on the actual battlegrounds of Tobruk. We see the famous Fig Tree, trenches, outposts, and bunkers where our men fought. After lunch at Knightsbridge Cemetery, Acroma, where over 300 Australians are buried, as part of 3,649 allied graves, we go to the Tobruk Commonwealth War Cemetery, where 559 Australians are buried. | Day 10: 6 May |
MERSA MATRUH |
| Early transfer after breakfast to the Egyptian border, visiting Bardia enroute. We cross into Egypt and drive to Sollum to visit the cemetery there. After a picnic lunch, we continue to Mersa Matruh. Overnight Mersa Matruh. (B, L, D) |
| After breakfast, we visit Rommel's Cave and drive to El Alamein where we visit the large Commonwealth Cemetery. Later we check in to the hotel on the beach. (B, D) |
| Drive to Alexandria, visiting the Library and Museum as well as Chatby Cemetery. We continue to our hotel in central Cairo. (B) |
| After breakfast, we have a tour to the great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Egyptian Museum, housing the treasures of Tutankhamon. Afterwards we can visit the large bazaar, the Khan el Khalili. (B) |
| This morning you have time for last minute shopping and sight-seeing in Cairo. Midday transfer to airport. |
