DAY 1: Sunday 9 September 2012
IN-FLIGHT

Depart on our International Flight with China Airlines to Beijing.

DAY 2: Monday 10
BEIJING

Arrive in Beijing, where we are met and transferred to our hotel. You can relax or visit the unique 798 Art Village which is within walking distance of our Hotel. A Welcome Dinner will be held early evening, where we will enjoy a delicious Peking Duck Banquet. (D)

DAY 3: Tuesday 11
BEIJING

Today we will visit Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world. From Tiananmen Square enter the Forbidden City. This massive complex was the centre of the Ming and Qing dynasties, with almost 10,000 rooms, this well-preserved imperial palace is the largest in the world. Then we visit a local family, enjoy lunch and experience traditional dumpling. After lunch we take a rickshaw ride through a Hutong, which is an ancient city alley or lane typical in Beijing. DAY 4: Wednesday 12
BEIJING

After breakfast we experience the splendour of the Great Wall, the pride of China and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is an amazing man-made structure built over 2000 years ago to protect China from northern invaders. The afternoon is free to relax or explore more of the 798 Art Village area. Tonight we attend a Acrobatic Troupe Show. (B)

DAY 5: Thursday 13
BEIJING

In the morning we visit the Summer Palace, the largest and best preserved of all imperial palace gardens. Marvel with fascination at the Marble Boat and the ornately painted Long Corridor. We also visit the new icons in Beijing – the 2008 Olympic venues of Bird's Nest & Water Cube. Then we experience the excitement of shopping in Beijing's specialty market stores and the world-renowned Silk Market. (B)

DAY 6: Friday 14

TAIPEI

Free time this morning until we transfer to the airport for our flight to Taipei. Upon arrival we are met and transferred to our hotel for check in. (B,D)

DAY 7: Saturday 15
TAROKO GORGE
>After breakfast, we transfer by rail to Taroko Gorge National Park. Taroko Gorge is an exceptionally beautiful national park. The gorge's narrow ravine, created by the Liwu River, cuts deep into mountains of solid marble and granite. Here we will see the spectacular road carved into sheer cliff-face, as it weaves its way through what is known as the Tunnel of Nine Turns, Marble Bridge and Swallows Caves. (B,L) td>
DAY 8: Sunday 16
TAIPEI

Today we transfer to the Yilan National Centre for Traditional Arts, then continue our drive to the gold rush town of Jioufen, which is situated on the North Eastern tip of Taiwan. We visit the local market and learn about the town's fascinating past. We return to Taipei, for overnight. (B)

DAY 9: Monday 17
TAIPEI

After breakfast we explore Taipei, visiting the impressive Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and National Palace Museum where 5,000 years of Chinese imperial art and Jade collections are exhibited. We also visit the Martyrs' shrine with its traditional architecture. In the afternoon, we visit Yangmingshan National Park, the area north of Taipei city, famous for its beautiful scenery. (B)

DAY 10: Tuesday 18
SUN MOON LAKE

Today we transfer by train to the beautiful Sun Moon Lake District. Sun Moon Lake is situated 762 metres above sea level in the lofty mountains of Central Taiwan. On the way, we will stop at the famous Wenwu Temple (dedicated to Confucius as Master of the Brush and to Kuan Ti as Master of the Sword); the Holy Monk Shrine. Upon arrival in Sun Moon we take a boat ride on the beautiful, tranquil lake. We stay overnight at Sun Moon Lake's magnificent Lalu hotel (which ranks in the top 50 holiday resorts in the world). DAY 11: Wednesday 19
SUN MOON LAKE

After breakfast we visit the Chung Tai Chan Monastery. The building itself is almost 150 metres tall and sits on a landscaped hill of about 27 hectares, its architecture embodying modern day technology and artistry. In the afternoon, we return to our hotel in time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. (B)

DAY 12: Thursday 20
ALISHAN

Today we travel to Alishan which is famous throughout Taiwan and parts of South-east Asia for its recreational pathways through the forests. (B,L,D)

DAY 13: Friday 21
KAOHSIUNG

We rise early this morning, and take the hotel shuttle to a vantage point to see a spectacular sunrise. We return to the hotel for breakfast then drive to Tainan City. Tainan, the ancient capital of Taiwan, is situated on the south western coastal plains of the island and enjoys a warm climate all year-round. It is the island's oldest and now fourth largest city. With its long history, Tainan is rich in historic sites and cultural heritage. After visiting Tainan city, we proceed to Kaohsiung, the 2nd largest city in Taiwan. Tonight, we will stay in Kaohsiung and enjoy a Farewell Dinner together. (B,L,D)

DAY 14: Saturday 22
IN-FLIGHT

After breakfast, we enjoy a Kaohsiung City tour including visiting Fokuangshan Temple, Light of Buddha Mountain and Spring and Autumn Pavilions. From here you can find the seven-tiered Dragon and Tiger pagodas standing in the water of Lotus Lake at Tzuoying and a nine-cornered bridge that links the pagodas to the shore. The afternoon will be free until our transfer to Kaohsiung airport. (B)
