DAY 1: Sunday 21 October 2012
MEXICO CITY

Meet your Tour Manager at the departure gate in Los Angeles and fly to Mexico City. On arrival in Mexico we are met at the airport and transferred to our airport hotel.

DAY 2: Monday 22
HAVANA

 

Transfer back to the terminal to board our flight to Havana. Transfer to our hotel located in Old Havana. Havana is a fascinating city, from the faded Spanish architecture and cobblestone streets of Old Havana (UNESCO World Heritage Site) to its magnificent museums and colourful past, it offers a wealth of sights and sounds that capture the very essence of Cuba. (B)

DAY 3: Tuesday 23
HAVANA

This morning enjoy a walking tour of Old Colonial Havana. We will visit a cigar factory and have the chance to sample the local produce! We will continue on through the cobblestone streets of Old Havana to enjoy the live ‘theatre' of La Habana Vieja - offering a interesting view of this wonderful city's historical and fascinating culture. After lunch we will tour Modern Havana by vintage car! (B, L)

DAY 4: Wednesday 24
TRINIDAD

A morning drive to Cienfuegos (also referred to as The Pearl of the Caribbean). Iit is one of the youngest and most beautiful cities of Cuba. The streets are lined with mansions well past their belle epoch. Lunch will be enjoyed (subject to weather) on the patio of the elegant Cienfuegos Yacht Club. Continue on to Trinidad de Cuba. Much of its architecture and cobblestone streets remain untouched. Nearby are some excellent beaches on the Playa Ancon Peninsula. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Thursday 25
TRINIDAD

After breakfast we will tour Trinidad on foot. We explore the city starting from the Plaza Mayor (Main Square). Around the plaza are the Museo Romantica, the Museo Arqueologia and the Iglesia Parroquial de la Santisima Trinidad Cathedral. We will stroll through the Parque Cespedes with its shaded archways of vines and trailing plants. This evening we will enjoy dinner at the home of a Cuban family. (B, D)

DAY 6: Friday 26
HAVANA

After breakfast we travel through numerous sugar plantations to the city of Santa Clara, the final resting place of "Che” Guevara. In Santa Clara we will enjoy a short orientation tour of the city with a visit to the mausoleum and the museum dedicated to Che's extraordinary life. Continue back to our hotel in Havana. (B, L)

HAVANA

Day at leisure to explore Havana. (B)

DAY 8: Sunday 28
CANCUN

Early transfer today to the airport for our short flight to Cancun. Transfer to our hotel in Playa Del Carmen. This afternoon we will tour the Tulum Ruins. Tulum is the only known walled Mayan city built on a cliff, which affords a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea. Visit El Castillo structure, the Temple of the Descending God, and other ancient buildings. (B)

DAY 9: Monday 29
MERIDA

Full day tour departing Playa del Carmen for the fabled pyramids and temples of Chichen-Itza, the Yucatan's best known ancient monuments. On arrival visit the site of the ruins, admire the Temple of the Kukulkan, the Red Jaguar Throne, the Temple of the Tigers, the Observatory and the Ball Game Court. Continue to our hotel in Merida. (B, L)

DAY 10: Tuesday 30
MERIDA

Today we have a full day excursion to the classical Mayan city of Uxmal and this afternoon the equally impressive well-preserved ruins of Kabah. The ruins of Uxmal are noted for their rich geometric stone facades, the most beautiful on the peninsula. Visit the Nunnery Quadrangle, the house of the Governors and the House of the Pigeons. The most outstanding building at Kabah is the huge Palace of Masks. Also visit the Temple of the Columns and the famous Mayan Arch before returning to Merida. (B, L)

DAY 11: Wednesday 31
OAXACA

Transfer to the airport for our flight to Oaxaca via Mexico City. Transfer to our hotel. Spanish Baroque architecture and authentic colonial touches will take you back to earlier times in Oaxaca. (B)

DAY 12: Thursday 1 November
OAXACA

Today we take a short drive out of Oaxaca and up to the acropolis of Monte Alban, the ancient capital of the Zapotecs. Visit the many interesting structures of this site. The dramatic frame of the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains and the spectacular view over the city and valley of Oaxaca make Monte Alban one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the country. Later we visit Mitla, "The City of the Dead” with its unique mosaics. Enroute we will also see an ancient Tule tree, almost 2,000 years old! (B)

DAY 13: Friday 2
OAXACA

Day at leisure to explore the city on your own, easily done on foot. (B)

DAY 14: Saturday 3
PUEBLA

Today we journey by coach to Puebla and transfer to our hotel. Afternoon is at your leisure to explore the city. (B)

DAY 15: Sunday 4
MEXICO CITY

Morning tour of Puebla, founded in 1531. The city is famous for its hand painted ceramics and tiles, done in the "Talavera” style. This afternoon we depart for Mexico City. (B)

DAY 16: Monday 5
MEXICO CITY

Enjoy a half day tour of Mexico City, visiting the most important buildings in the historical centre. See the ruins at the main Temple of the Aztecs, and visit a local handicraft centre before continuing onto Chapultepec Park where many of Mexico's famous artist's reside. Continue to the modern part of the City where we have a guided tour of the Anthropology Museum, one of the world's ten best museums. This afternoon we visit Coyoacan, known for its colourful & colonial architecture, and the wonderful Frida Kahlo Museum. Visit the museum and enjoy some free time to wander the Plaza Hidalgo and see the popular market. (B)

DAY 17: Tuesday 6
MEXICO CITY

Today we have a full day of touring. Visit the Palace of Cortes and the Cathedral at Cuernavaca, the city of eternal spring, before continuing to the silver town of Taxco, with its cobblestone streets and atmosphere of long ago. Visit the Churrigueresque style Santa Prisca Church and browse through the countless silver shops, returning to your hotel in Mexico City early evening. (B)

DAY 18: Wednesday 7
MEXICO CITY

Today enjoy a half day tour to the famous Teotihuacan Pyramids & Guadalupe Shrine. Continue on to the Basilica and see the two shrines. At Teotihuacan we will have the opportunity to climb the amazing Pyramids as well as visit the place of Quetzal-Butterfly, the Feather Snake Temple, and the Avenue of the Dead. (B)

DAY 19: Thursday 8
TOUR ENDS

Transfer to the airport for our flight to Los Angeles. Fly home or extend your stay in the USA. (B)
